Meet the artist

Olivia Botha

“My goal is not to be famous before I leave this earth, but to touch a soul by every eye laid on a piece of my art.”

It was the year 1993. I was eleven years old, and little did I know that art could change my life forever. I started by selling pieces of my art to family and friends, friends of friends, teachers etc. I grew up in the small town of Virginia and before long everyone knew me and my paintings. It was an exciting thing to suddenly manage my own business and I learned a lot about handling criticism. While attending High School in Bloemfontein, I sold my paintings to teachers and also found an outlet there.

In 1996 I was privileged enough to be part of the Bloemfontein Children’s Choir. While joining the choir’s tour to America and Canada, I handed a painting to our country’s embassy. In 1997 till 1999, I organised a lot of exhibitions back in my hometown, Virginia. After a lot of hard work I found an agent in Johannesburg.

In 2000 I was one of the top 5 finalists for the Absa Top Entrepreneur Competition and privileged to join on tour to Europe. This achievement gave me a lot of publicity, and by the end of 2000 I had another two clients in Johannesburg and one client in the Eastern Cape. After a lot of hard work, I sold almost 3500 different sized paintings in 2001. In 2002 I relocated to Bloemfontein again, where after I decided to go to London for a few months – I guess I would call that a break!

In 2004 I started with a graphic design course. Using a computer as a design tool is very different from painting, but this inspired my paintings and using different mediums and figures.Since 2006 my art business has grown a lot. I give honour to God’s great power and plans for me. Today I am selling my art to a few interior decorators and art galleries.

I love painting my clients special things – this is my talent, a ministry, a passion; and a wonderful business.
