Entrepreneurial Stories

Ilse Straw

I was born in Sasolburg,  today my husband and I, with our 3 children are farming just outside of Sasolburg, in the WoIwehoek area. I remember as a young child, I was always drawing, painting and creating.

In 2000 I started a children’s clothing range and I taught myself to do portraits as a hobby. Soon my love for painting became clear to me. I was chosen as one of the “New Signature” artist at Alice Art gallery in 2007. In 2008 I had the privilege to attend America’s  Portrait Society’ annual conference in Philadelphia, USA.

Everyone around me became aware of my sense to create, and soon I was planning an outfit, setting a table and painting a gift for someone special. I am blessed with this wonderful fulfilling talent to create and make something beautiful.

I see the world through my heart and the world see my heart through my art.

Irene Inspirational Art

I believe that we are born with something our Creator puts in our hearts, talents, and desires, something that feeds our soul.
For as long as I can remember I was always busy creating. When I was a small child I was always drawing. I grew up on a farm, I remember walking with a book and drawing every day.

My life led me down different career paths, but  I never felt completely satisfied. I always knew that I was not where I truly belonged. I  was always searching for something more. Something that would give me peace in my soul. One night I woke up with the words  “Do not let your talent go to waste“.

I asked the Lord to lead me to the right people, to teach me how to develop the talent that had been in me since I was born. Later in life, I discovered the love to paint. I went for a 3 day ported study course in 2015 and later in 2017. For the first time in my life, I truly felt fulfilled. My soul comes alive when I started painting. I never felt closer to my Creator. Since then I have not stopped.
I want to reflect God in every painting. If you look closely at the wonders God has made, you become humble and see that the true Artist is the one who created everything.

I hope every painting touches someone’s heart, that the work of my hands will bring blessings to all with whom I come in contact with. That it will give hope where hope is needed and may it remind everyone that with God nothing is impossible.
I pray that my talent will bring joy and beauty to a world that is sometimes dark and discouraging.
Your talents are God’s gift to you, what you do with it, is your gift back to God.

I Peter 4(10 (NIV)  Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

Le Papillon Art

I hope that you find true inspiration through my message of hope…
Now if we haven’t met yet, I’m Charlene, a self-taught mixed media artist that started to paint my heart out in 2017.
December 2016 me and my cute little family decided to move from South Africa to Canada. Lock stock and barrel. Cray, cray, I know right!
I owned a gift shop and a boutique back in South Africa for 8 years where I lived out my creativity daily. Coming here I didn’t have a clue as to what career path I will follow next. I searched high and low, but nothing said, HERE I AM…..and we all know if it’s not a hell yes, then it is certainly a NO.
With all the emotions, homesickness and you name it I had to work through, I decided to put my frustrations on canvas. Andddd that is where it all started!
With my first show, I sold most of my originals. As an entrepreneur and artist, there is nothing more satisfying than to know people can relate and appreciate my work.
So what is with the shop name?
Lol, I get that a lot! Le Papillon is French for butterfly. It describes best my growth in my art and my new career path! Yeah!!!! I love what I do and know deep down from my heart whispers that this is my calling!
Now my wish is to bless every beautiful soul out there with my inspiring art and kind words.
